I don’t even know where to start.
I guess it all started back in September of 2010. I decided, along with the help of my boyfriend (now husband/baby daddy), that I wanted to be “A PHOTOGRAPHER.” So I did it. I opened a business. I always get questioned as to what “HMK Photography” stood for and why I chose that name and quite simply, it was because it was easy. My maiden name was Koziel and Heather Marie Photography was already being used. Since HMK Photography was free, we went with that, never considering what happened if/when we got married. We bought the domain, built a website and opened shop. I had no idea what I was doing and looking back, I wish I had handled things a little differently but hindsight is 20/20 and I had some fabulous clients who have stuck with me through all of the growing pains.
After a year of shooting everything I could, I discovered that I truly loved photography and more importantly, loved my clients and interacting with them. This little business of mine was here to stay. So I redesigned my logo in November of 2011, redesigned a website and kept trucking along.
(I mean…YIKES – this was bad…)
Over the course of the past 7 years, I’ve “rebranded” a few times. I’ve gone through 4 logo changes and 4 new websites (and almost one divorce over said websites….I kid…slightly). I decided to only shoot weddings as children just “weren’t my thing.”
But as life goes on, priorities change. You change.
I never stopped feeling connected to my clients but I started not feeling connected to my company. I’m not the same person I was when I started this. I’m married with a beautiful family. And surprise, I actually do like children (which my son appreciates I’m sure). I no longer want to only document marriage, I want to document LIFE. I want to be there when your family starts AND when it grows. I want to continue to make lasting friendships with my clients and watch their children grow.
This change has been years in the making but it took the patience of one AMAZING designer (I’m looking at you Alyssa!) to bring my scattered thoughts into what you see before you. I spent 3 months narrowing down designers, another 3 months doing nothing (hello pregnancy), and another 4 months of working back and forth with Alyssa to create – Studio Heather Marie
I wanted something that says sophisticated, driven….but I couldn’t give up my party side and she NAILED IT.
Hope over to Instagram to see more images and read more about Studio Heather Marie. Send your friends to my site to look around. Book me for a session or a wedding. Share the love.
And most importantly, thank you for always believing in me, supporting me, and letting me share in your family stories. I love you all!
